Night Food Market in Hangzhou

Gentle Reader...

We wandered off late at night, searching for a night market.  After walking a ways, we found one... with amazing street food!  Had some dumplings and the pancake like dish, which was filled with fermented vegetables.  Very spicy, which was unusual to find at the restaurants.  On the street, we always requested spice (la) be added to our food.  The vendors gave us a curious look, always, as Westerners didn't tend to ask for the spice.  This food was like being back in Guizhou, tongue-burning and lip-buzzing food.  So good!!!!

We also ran into Ting, the erhu soloist, and the narrator of our concerts as we wandered the streets.  We shared our food with them, of course.  As we walked and talked, we discovered Ting had been to a very special Ancient Instrument Contest in Guizhou Province, in Guiyang.  She knew the place we loved.  And yes, she won the competition.

Such a delightful night out on the streets... a gift for the senses, absolutely.

 KFC places abound in China, along with Pizza Hut.  These companies are owned by Yum Industries.  Tian and Li, the two college guys that lived with Scott for an academic year in 2009 in Madisonville, KY, told us that if you really wanted to impress your date, you took her to a Pizza Hut.

A mobile display of coats for sale.  They were closing up for the night, hauling all the racks into an enclosure for the night.  I was amazed by the beautiful array of colors for the winter wear...
